8. OATH OF OFFICE: Shawn Mazza Chief Of Police
Administrator Newman presented Shawn Mazza to the City Council for appointment to the position of Chief of Police. She detailed his professional career, his commendations and awards, and his volunteer work.
Mayor Schielke administered the Oath of Office.
Chief Mazza spoke to thank individuals who supported him in his career including former Chiefs and Chief Daniel Eul.
9. OATH OF OFFICE: Michael Johnson Police Deputy Chief
Chief Mazza presented Michael Johnson to the City Council for appointment to the position of Deputy Chief.
Mayor Schielke administered the Oath of Office.
10. OATH OF OFFICE: Promotion To Police Sergeant
Chief Mazza presented Bryan Lorden to the City Council for appointment to the position of Police Sergeant.
Mayor Schielke administered the Oath of Office.
11. PRESENTATION: Batavia Community Band Fall Events – Linda Schielke
Linda Schielke presented a new lapel pin fundraiser for the Batavia Flag Day Monument. She also spoke about the upcoming events of the Batavia Community Band, which has been providing music at community events since 2013. The band includes about 40 members of all ages and ability levels. There will be additional public performances on September 11th and October 2nd at 3:00 PM.
12. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Director Margaret Perreault presented about the recent and upcoming events of the Chamber of Commerce.
The Donna Dallesasse award recipient for 2022 is Mary Ann Callahan. The award will be presented at the Harvest Celebration on September 21st.
She introduced Valley Sheltered Workshop Executive Director Hugo Saltijeral. Valley Sheltered Workshop began in 1966 in Batavia and provides sheltered employment opportunities for adults with disabilities.
Ald. Beck left the meeting at 8:13 PM.
13. APPROVAL: Class A Liquor License For Geneva Winery LLC Located At 5-9 N. River St. Batavia IL (DME 8/17/22 COW 8/23/22 10/0) GS
Motion by Ald. Chanzit, seconded by Ald. Wolf , to approve the license. Motion carried 12 yea/ 0 nay/ 2 absent.
14. APPROVAL: Class G Special Use Permit – Liquor License Applications For Batavia Park District For The 2022 “Pints By The Pond - Brewfest” To Be Held At 151 N. Island Avenue On September 24, 2022 (8/30/22 SRM) GS
Motion by Ald. Chanzit, seconded by Ald. Wolf , to approve the permit. Motion carried 12 yea/ 0 nay/ 2 absent.

15. MOTION: Approve Sale Of Excess Land At Northwest Corner Of Batavia Avenue And West Wilson Street (SCB 8/8/22 COW 8/23/22 11/0) 2/3 Vote Required CD
Motion by Ald. Wolf , seconded by Ald. Solfa, to approve the sale. Motion carried 13 yea/ 0 nay/ 1 absent.
16. RESOLUTION 22-086-R: Authorizing The Execution Of A Contract With Lite Construction, Inc. For The Batavia Government Center 2022 Interior And Exterior Remodeling Project (SH 8/17/22 COW 8/23/22 11/0) GS
Motion by Ald. Chanzit, seconded by Ald. Solfa, to approve the resolution. Motion carried 13 yea/ 0 nay/ 1 absent.
As an additional point of order: Ald. Wolff offered a Proclamation to the City Council, which was read into record by Ald. Chanzit. The Proclamation declares the city government center building as the Jeffery D. Schielke Building, in honor of his service to the Batavia community. Ald. Wolff made a motion to accept the proclamation, Ald. Solfa seconded, and an informal vote carried the motion 13 yea/ o nay/ 1 absent. To officially accept this action, the City Council will revisit the vote as a published agenda item at a future date.
