State Rep. Keith Wheeler (R-Oswego) said he lost the election to Democrat opponent Matt Hanson.
“Congratulations to Hanson on his win tonight. Since taking office in 2015, I’ve always taken a collaborative approach to getting the people’s work done and will continue to do so until I leave office in January,” Wheeler wrote on Facebook. “Our state faces many challenges, and the only way to address them is to work together for the betterment of Illinoisans.”
With approximately 95% of the 83rd District's votes in, Democrat Matt Hanson seems to have defeated incumbent Republican Keith Wheeler. Hanson won 54% of the vote in Kane County and 51.6% of the vote in Kendall County.
Hanson defeated challenger Arad Boxenbaum in the June Democratic primary, winning 67.8% of the vote, according to Ballotpedia.
Hanson was a Kane County Board member from 2019 and 2021 and works as an engineer on the BNSF Railway, according to Ballot Ready.
Hanson said in a recent Facebook post that he is a supporter of abortion, the Equal Rights Amendment, and the Equal Pay Act.
