NLU Joins Metropolitan Chicago Tutoring Corps

339

Thanks to a grant from A Better Chicago (a nonprofit organization that aims to fight poverty and create opportunities for youth), National Louis University is partnering with Roosevelt University to recruit current undergraduate and graduate NLU students to participate in an exciting paid opportunity.

This partnership commenced with Roosevelt University’s creation of the Metropolitan Chicago Tutoring Corps in collaboration with Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Corps members provide high-dosage tutoring during the school day in reading and literacy to kindergarten through fifth grade students throughout the school year. MCTC’s focus is to address the needs of Chicago students and prepare them for success as schools emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.

All corps members will be employed by CPS and paid for their tutoring during the school day. CPS will pay corps members $20-22 an hour, as long as you’re willing to tutor for 20-32 hours per week. That’s $400-$700 a week!

Teacher candidates enrolled in elementary education are especially encouraged to apply. All who want to help make a positive difference in the lives of our future leaders are welcome.

Acceptance into the MCTC will provide National Louis University students with other important benefits including:

  • Specialized support and training during the Fall and Spring semesters for the tutoring work to be completed.
  • Up to $1,500 to cover expenses related to child care and transportation.
  • For teacher candidates: the possibility of counting tutoring time as introductory field experience hours.
