Rep. Keith Wheeler (R-North Aurora) cosponsored House Joint Resolution 89 with three other Illinois House members that became law this April, transforming a stretch of highway in Aurora into the “Dan Dolan Way.” The renamed highway is a tribute to Dan Dolan, a proud Irishman whose family are prominent philanthropists and community members.
“The Dolan family in Aurora is just one of those people you can't wait to see,” Wheeler said to the resolution. “And you see them at virtually every charity function, every community function. They are synonymous with what makes Aurora a great place to live, a great place for me to represent.”
Rep. Stephanie A. Kifowit (D-Aurora) introduced the bill in the House in March. Rep. Barbara Hernandez (D-Aurora), Rep. Maura Hirschauer (D-West Chicago) and Wheeler, the only Republican, co-sponsored the bill. Sen. Karina Villa (D-West Chicago) sponsored the bill in the Senate.
The bill was popular and moved quickly through both chambers, passing unanimously in the House one day and the Senate the next.
The “Dan Dolan Way” designates a stretch of Route 31 that travels from East Illinois Avenue to East Indian Trail Road.
