Women's bowling grabs CCIW title

43

The Aurora University women's bowling program set a historical mark on Sunday afternoon when they captured the 2021-2022 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) women's bowling regular season conference title. AU shared the crown with Marian University.

Both the Spartans and Sabres finished with identical 14-2 conference records during Baker competition February 5-6 and traditional competition March 5-6 at Bowlero in Naperville, Illinois.

AU clinched the title with a pair of wins on Sunday over Lakeland University (761-636) and Carroll University (917-829). All scores from the CCIW competitions can be found here.

AU and Marian, along with Carroll and Carthage, placed in the top four in the team standings and move onto a four-team, NCAA mega-match format tournament held March 26-27 at Mardi Gras in DeKalb, Illinois. Marian will be the No. 1 seed by virtue of a 2-0 record against the Spartans, while Carthage's 2-0 record against Carroll earned the Firebirds the No. 3 seed. The March 26-27 winner will be declared the 2022 CCIW Tournament Champion.

The CCIW is just the second NCAA Division III multi-sport conference to sponsor women's bowling and the only one in the Midwest. With the addition of women's bowling, it put the CCIW in the top three nationally amongst NCAA Division III conferences in number of sports sponsored.
