During the 45th reunion luncheon for the National College of Education (NCE) Class of 1957, Patricia Cassin-Graft and her classmates learned that one of the student workers present at the event was an aspiring teacher completing her coursework at NCE. After the event, Patricia and a group of NCE alumni raised money to assist the student worker with her student teaching expenses, inspiring the now institutional Cassin-Graft Scholarship.
Since 2002, the Cassin-Graft Scholarship Fund has provided critically urgent financial aid to students about to enter their final term at NCE, who demonstrate significant financial need, and (a distinctive requirement to earn this award) who intend to work in high-needs schools upon graduation. To date, there have been 165 Cassin-Graft Scholars who, collectively, have made a difference in the lives of thousands of children.
NCE has put together a booklet highlighting five Cassin-Graft Scholarship recipients who continue to work in high-needs schools across the Chicagoland area. Read about their educational journeys, from NCE and beyond, in the Cassin-Graft booklet here.
