City of Batavia Environmental Commission met Nov. 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

1. Call to Order

2. Member and Guest Introductions

Members: Andrew Greenhagen, Andrew Deitchman, Carolyn Burnham, Emma Cole, Alex Zelles, Gary King

Guests: Tim filling in for Andrea Podraza

Absent: Andrea Podraza, Michael Willuweit

3. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes

Approved and sent.

4. Fox River Dam

Alex sent an excellent letter that expressed the opinion of the BEC- that any option including dam removal would be beneficial for the river and the community.

Currently, it seems there are two groups of aldermen- one group supports Option B and another group supports complete removal of the dam (either due to ecological concerns or concern about cost). The votes are currently split.

The BEC will continue to stay involved and informed as a final decision has not been made. The BEC will send the letter to the Batavia Park District Board members, as the discussion is headed there next. The BEC will also post our letter on the BEC Facebook.

5. Big Trees

Nothing new this month!

6. Green Business Ole

Applicants were discussed and a winner was chosen for 2021.

7. Open Discussion

Emma will be sending an email to try and set up a meeting to get going with the plastic bag fee initiative.

Festive December meeting will be held at Sidecar!

The BEC is wondering if there are any updates about the GreenCorps fellowship.

There will be a new Kane County Recycling Coordinator, in case anyone knows someone interested.

Anna started up her clean up days again but there is not Battle of the Brush Pile this year.

8. Adjournment
