The Aurora University men's basketball team put a scare into the Marian University Sabres in the opening round of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament but fell in an exciting overtime game, 76-75.

- The Spartans went back and forth with the Sabres early on as the teams traded numerous leads.
- A basket from Shamar Pumphrey with 10:55 to go in the first put the Spartans up 18-12.
- A minute and a half later, AU would hold their largest lead of the game 22-15 on a JT Daniels layup.
- Marian answered with a 13-2 run and AU trailed 28-24 with 3:45 to play in the first-half.
- AU went to halftime down four at 34-30.
- The Spartans out shot Marian in the first-half and utilized 5-of-8 shooting from three-point range including three-of-three from Terreon Hopkins.
- 1:50 into the second, AU trailed by their biggest margin at 7 (42-35).
- The responding run this time came from the Spartans who ran off a 17-5 scoring margin and led 52-47 with 13:43 to go.
- After Marian answered with an 8-0 run, AU tied the game on a Justin Wilson three.
- The Spartans would trade leads before going up four with 4:16 and 1:55 left in the game.
- Marian scored the final four points of regulation as the game went to overtime, tied 68-68.
- In overtime, AU opened up a quick three point lead but Marian tied the game with three free throws as a shooter was fouled attempting a three.
- After going down two, Brooks Schoon hit four straight free throws to put AU up 75-73 with 1:26 to go in ot.
- Both teams missed chances to score on the next two possessions with Marian having the ball down two with 20 seconds left.
- With 4.3 seconds to go, Marian hit a three to take the 76-75 lead.
- Coming out of a timeout, AU had a chance to win but the Shamar Pumphrey three from the corner hit the front of the rim.
- AU fell 76-75 in a thrilling overtime contest.
