Mayor's Weekly Update + Batavia Dam/Depot Pond Updates
The Mayor's update is back after a one-week break. You can view the Friday, Sept. 3rd update here. In it, he talked about upcoming community meetings/open houses concerning the dam/Depot Pond discussion. From the City:
"The City of Batavia and the Batavia Park District have launched a comprehensive planning process for the Batavia Fox River Corridor intended to enhance recreational function, river ecology, cultural importance, and stewardship of Batavia’s most valuable natural resources for future generations. The first step is selecting a dam removal process and reviewing how each concept affects the Depot Pond. We want you to be part of the discussion this September!"

Batavia Community Band Concert in the Park
The Batavia Community Band will be hosting their fourth annual “Concert in the Park” on Sunday, Sept. 12, from 5:00-6:00pm at the Peg Bond Center on the Batavia Riverwalk. In case of bad weather, the concert will be held in the Council Chambers at Batavia City Hall next to the Riverwalk.
This concert will consist of music from many different genres, including marches, classics, movie medleys, and patriotic songs.

Congratulations to Toys 'n Hobbies 4 All!
The Batavia Chamber of Commerce was delighted to celebrate the opening of Batavia Chamber member Toys ’n Hobbies 4 All with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 2. This store, located at 1952 W. Fabyan Parkway (next to Trader Joe’s), Batavia, is filled with of fun toys and hobbies for all ages.
Batavia Mayor Jeffery Schielke presided over the celebration, along with store owner Sebastien Coron and his wife. Among the well-wishers were employees of the store and American Hobbies & Merchandising Inc., the parent company of Toys ‘n Hobbies 4 All. These included Christina Lopez, assistant manager, and Kristen Hass, marketing.
Toys ‘n Hobbies 4 All carries a wide selection of ride-on toys, outdoor play toys, collectible diecast tractors and vehicles, DIY kits, wooden stables and barns, farm animals, and much more. Regular hours for the toy store are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Saturday. They are closed on Sundays. Thank You Batavia Rotary Club!
The Batavia Chamber of Commerce was happy to participate in the dedication of two bike racks with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Friday, Sept. 3. The Batavia Rotary Club used some of the funds raised from their annual bike trip, Ride the Frog, to purchase the much-appreciated bike racks. The City of Batavia poured the pad and installed them at the Batavia Boardwalk Shops on the corner of Wilson and South River Streets.

On Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, Batavia Public School District 101 will welcome sixteen inductees into its BPS101 Hall of Honor at Batavia High School. In a typical year, the Hall of Honor welcomes eight inductees, but the 2020 celebration was delayed so this year’s celebration will combine the 2020 and 2021 classes with, “Twice the Fun in ‘21”
The BPS101 Hall of Honor was initiated by the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence and BPS101 to promote pride in Batavia Public Schools and to honor alumni, faculty, and friends who have made outstanding accomplishments in their communities and personal lives since they have been associated with the District.
