SPECIAL EVENTS

Carp-O-Rama – Help clean out our Pond!

On August 28 from 9-11am at Blackhawk Pond we are hosting a Carp-O-Rama. Common Carp impact the health of a waterbody and the game fish that call Blackhawk Pond home. Due to Common Carp’s ability to tolerate varying environmental conditions they can thrive in any aquatic setting. When Common Carp have an abundance in numbers they become a nuisance due to the increase water clarity. The loss in water quality makes it problematic for game fish to forage, causing a decline in the overall health of sport fish and the aquatic ecosystem itself. With that said, we are holding a Carp-O-Rama for all ages of the community to come out and help us clean up the quality of Blackhawk Pond. This event is open to all ages, please remember anyone over 16 years of age will need an Illinois Fishing License. Blackhawk pond is typically a catch and release pond, except during this event. When you catch a Carp, you may keep it or properly dispose of the Carp in designated cans for removal from the site.  Once enough Carp have been removed, we will be able to restock the pond for better fishing in the future.  Registration is not required for this event.
