A group of businesses has expressed its concern about the huge tax increase the Illinois governor has proposed.
The Valley Industrial Association which has members that are located primarily in the Northern Illinois counties of Kane, DuPage, Cook, Lake, McHenry, Kendall, and DeKalb, shared sentiment with other Illinois business groups to protest Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s proposal to remove the COVID-19 tax relief granted to businesses.
If this happens, $500 million in revenue is likely to be shouldered by Illinois businesses.
The Valley Industrial Association and the rest of the business associations in the group opposing the idea, according to the Washington Examiner, wrote:
“We urge the Governor and legislature to reject this massive tax increase at a time when thousands of small businesses across the entire state are struggling to stay afloat during a pandemic and government-imposed shutdowns. This will have a dramatic impact on every aspect of business, including some of our most decimated industries. We understand the desire to find revenue, but this is the opposite of an ‘all-in’ approach.”
Founded in 1902, while it was formerly named as the Fox River Valley Manufacturer's Association, the Valley Industrial Association carries the same commitment to its more than 200 current members, "for the benefit and advantage for all concerned" manufacturers in the Aurora area.
