Chicago (82,233 cases) and Cook County (67,355 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,979, while Cook County recorded 2,289 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 5,974,469, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 61,219 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 143,454 were male and 156,482 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,752, while female deaths stood at 4,084.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 4,259 Asians, 4,259 whites, 2,245 African-Americans, 1,761 Hispanics, and 186 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
