City of Elgin issued the following announcement on Oct. 2.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released guidelines classifying trick-or-treating a high-risk activity during the coronavirus pandemic. The City of Elgin is not encouraging trick-or-treating this year consistent with the CDC’s guidance and is recommending alternative options for celebrating the holiday.
Those choosing to trick-or-treat should limit activity to 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31. Households not participating are encouraged to leave the front door exterior lights turned off during those hours to discourage visitors. Trick-or-treating safety tips can be found at cityofelgin.org/trickortreat.
Similar to activities like dining or attending events, persons choosing to participate in any Halloween celebrations should take appropriate COVID19 safety precautions, such as wearing a mask, social distancing and limiting group size.
