City of Aurora AVAC met July 8.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

1. Call to Order Will Hart called the meeting to order at 5:40 p.m.

2. Pledge of Allegiance Will Hart lead the Council in the Pledge

3. Moment of Silence

4. Roll Call 7 members (a quorum) were present. Those in attendance were SA, BC, JC, RF, WH, KL, CR, and CN (AOC Liaison).

5. Mission Statement Celia Rodriguez read the AVAC Mission statement.

6. Acceptance of Previous Minutes The council voted to accept the March 2020 minutes.

Ken Leask made the motion and it was seconded by Sandra Alvarez.

7. Public Comment No members of the public were in attendance.

8. Treasurer’s Report

No major changes in the five AVAC Funds (Brick; Scholarship; Assistance; General; and Service Dog).

9. Committee Report Out

a. Scholarship Fund The following persons were awarded $1,000.00 college scholarships. Andrew Coyle, Metea Valley High School; Carlos Liz, Marmion; Christa Manges, Waubonsie Valley High School; Alyssa Overlin, West Aurora High School; and Alheli Velazqez, Aurora Central High School.

b. AVAC Web / Social Media No update given.

c. Service Dogs No update on the service dogs.

d. Owned Businesses/Discount List & Placards Celia Rodriguez reported that the project should be off the ground this coming week.

e. Memorial Bricks No update

10. COA Liaison Report Out - Chuck Nelson COA has just opened City Hall on a reduced schedule. This week is the first week for in-person meetings of Boards and Councils and AVAC is one of the first. Masks and social distancing guidelines were adhered to per COA direction.

11. Upcoming Events Parades and the American Legion Car Show have all been cancelled and none will be rescheduled.

12. New Business

a. Celia proposed that AVAC have a display at a community event held in the parking lot of Lugi’s on Saturday, July 18th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It would improve our visibility and we could sell bricks for the memorial. Celia will organize the effort and will coordinate a working schedule for those who volunteered to work the booth.

b. Scientel Solutions will be hosting a golf outing September 14th and AVAC is one of the recipient of funds. More details will be provided next month and AVAC members will participate in the outing.

c. Chuck Nelson will check with the Fox Valley Community Fund to see if money from the Service Dog fund can be used for Aurora veterans in this time of crisis for our nation.

15. Next meeting is August 12th, 2020.

16. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m. Motion by Sandra Alvarez and seconded by Celia Rodriguez.
