The announcement below was released on July 21:

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Today, House Republican candidate Laura Curtis called on Maura Hirschauer to stand up for the citizens of the 49th district and reject Michael Madigan as Speaker, and pledge to refuse all campaign contributions from corrupt Democratic leaders’ tainted coffers.Investigations, indictments, arrests, allegations of bribery and pay-to-play, sexual harassment, and even the cover-up of rape swirl around House Speaker Michael Madigan and have ensnared his closest associates and contributors, yet Democratic lawmakers and candidates have stood by in silence.

Illinoisans are left to wonder, What will it take for Democrats to reject their corrupt leaders?Federal legal documents released today point to Madigan as “Public Official A” and allege the exchange of legislative and regulatory influence and vendor subcontracts for campaign contributions and jobs for patronage workers.

Federal investigators continue to pursue information of this scheme of fraud and public corruption, but Illinoisans cannot wait for reform.Statement from Laura Curtis, District 49:“Speaker Michael Madigan’s actions are disgraceful and an embarrassment to our state.

“Today, I’m asking my opponent Maura Hirschauer to join me in calling for Speaker Madigan to resign.“Unlike too many politicians in Springfield, I will not kowtow to corrupt financiers like Michael Madigan and will surely not let him have any influence over our district. My focus is on serving you, fighting for ethics reform, and ending the pay to play politics plaguing our state.”
