Illinois State House District 83 issued the following announcement on July 9.

AURORA, Ill. – To help consumers maximize their savings on utility costs during the COVID-19 pandemic, state Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, is hosting virtual one-on-one utility bill clinics with the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) on Wednesday, July 15 from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to leave families facing uncertainty with employment and finances, many are needing to find ways to save money on their burdensome monthly costs including their gas, electric and phone bills,” said Hernandez. “With these free one-on-one consultations, experts from CUB will equip consumers with ways to save money, avoid scams and stop paying unnecessary fees on their utility bills.”

To provide the utility bill clinics, Hernandez is partnering with CUB, a consumer watchdog group that aims to protect Illinois consumers and promote fair energy prices. Individuals can sign up for a free, virtual one-on-one consultation with a CUB expert to get information on how to spot unnecessary charges on gas, electric and phone bills, avoid scams and receive tips for making the right choices in the electric and gas markets. Registration is required to reserve a 30-minute meeting with a CUB representative. Participants should have current copies of their gas, electric and telephone bills on hand for CUB to review. Video chat information will be provided prior to the scheduled meeting. To register, individuals can visit https://tinyurl.com/y8fkphya.

“It never hurts to find additional ways to save on your monthly costs and as we all continue to adjust to the ever-changing COVID-19 landscape, now more than ever, every dollar counts,” said Hernandez. “CUB has helped residents across the state find ways to save money, and I strongly encourage residents to take advantage of their free services.”
