City of Batavia City Council met June 2.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

1. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER

The electronic meeting was held on GoToWebinar due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was called to order by Mayor Pro Tempore Wolff at 7:01 p.m. The meeting was configured to allow public participation if requested.

2. ROLL CALL

13 of 14 aldermen were present via phone and/or video at roll call.

Aldermen (by ward): Jennifer Baerren (1), Martin Callahan (2), Alan Wolff (2), Elliot Meitzler (3), Dan Chanzit (3), Tony Malay (4), Joe Knopp (4), Mark Uher (5), Abby Beck (5), Nicholas Cerone (6), Michael Russotto (6), Drew McFadden (7), and Keenan Miller (7) were present. Michael O’Brien (1) was absent.

Also present were members of the public and the following:

City Clerk, Ellen Posledni

City Administrator, Laura Newman

Director of Public Works, Gary Holm

Director of Information Services, Howard Chason

3. ORDINANCE 20-37: An Ordinance Declaring A State Of Disaster Due To Regional Civil Unrest

Administrator Newman said the item is being proposed in response to the potential for civil unrest in the city in connection with tomorrow’s protest downtown. It allows Mayor Schielke to issue Executive Orders in the event that emergency actions need to be taken.

Ald. Callahan asked if this ordinance replaces the current ordinance in effect for COVID-19. Administrator Newman clarified that the ordinances will exist side by side. The COVID-19 ordinance is in effect in conjunction with the state’s declaration. This ordinance expires at the next City Council meeting.

Motion by Ald. Wolff, seconded by Ald. Baerren, to approve the ordinance as presented. Motion carried 13 yea / 0 nay / 1 absent.

4. ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Ald. Knopp, seconded by Ald. Cerone, to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned by voice vote at 7:07 p.m.
