CITY OF ELGIN: Joins Foundations in Donating to Elgin Covid Response Fund

Donation

City of Elgin issued the following announcement on May 31.

The City of Elgin and both local and regional funders announce details of the recently established Elgin Covid Response Fund (ECRF). Beginning June 1, eligible nonprofit organizations can apply online at www.cffrv.gives/elgin-apply, with an application deadline of June 17. Applicants will be notified of grant decisions the week of July 8.

The ECRF seeks to disperse funds to organizations who are helping support Elgin residents during these uncertain times. The fund has been seeded with nearly $150,000, including a recent $50,000 contribution from the City of Elgin. Donations can be made to the Elgin Covid Response Fund online at www.cffrv.gives/elgin-covid.

“These are extraordinary times that require extraordinary efforts. That is why the Seigle Family Foundation is proud to be a part of this steering committee that consists of several of the family and private foundations who have been committed to Elgin long before the pandemic and will be committed long after,” explains Mark Seigle. “We are asking our fellow Elginites to donate to this important fund. Any contribution will be a contribution that goes back into our community, into the hands of our neighbors in need.”

Eligibility Criteria:

In order to be eligible, organizations should be located in the greater Elgin area and have a demonstrated history serving residents of the city of Elgin. Organizations and agencies who have not served Elgin in the past are ineligible for ECRF.

Purpose and Grant Amounts:

ECRF is a $500-$7,500 grant restricted specifically for the purpose of providing direct financial assistance to individuals and families facing urgent, financial need as a result of the pandemic. 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations can apply for the ECRF grant to administer the funds to individuals and families in need. The ECRF will prioritize those agencies applying to serve Elgin residents who are ineligible to receive benefits/assistance and those from vulnerable or disproportionately impacted communities.

Funding Specifications:

ECRF can be distributed by organizations to individuals and families for the following reasons:

Food & Grocery Support

Housing/Rental Assistance

Utilities

Medical Costs Associated with COVID

PPE (masks & gloves)

The ECRF was created through the leadership of the following partners: the City of Elgin, United Way Metro Chicago (formally United Way of Elgin), Grand Victoria Foundation, Seigle Family Foundation, Kaptain Family Trust, Wisdom Family Foundation and Hoffer Family Foundation. The fund is graciously hosted and administered at no cost by the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go back into the community.
