The Kiwanis Club of Elgin partnered with the Salvation Army to purchase baby diapers and wipes to help children in need as a way to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
The club donated $500 to the Salvation Army for the supplies, according to the Daily Herald. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these supplies are especially needed by families impacted by unemployment.
The Kiwanis Club of Elgin will be giving monthly donations to the Salvation Army for the supplies, which will total about $20,000 a year. Through its 100-year history, the club has given more than $1 million to local organizations to serve children.
The club was founded in 1920 as a way to support local organizations for children, according to the Daily Herald. In Elgin, it supports the Elgin Boys and Girls Club, Community Crisis Center, Elgin Youth Leadership Academy, Family Services Association, Gail Borden Public Library and several others.
More information on the club can be found on the organization's website.
