CITY OF AURORA: Giving Hope & Help For The Holidays

Give

City of Aurora issued the following announcement on Dec. 1.

There were extra helpings of gratitude and good food this Thanksgiving as City of Aurora officials surprised Aurora residents with Thanksgiving dinners. Ward 7 Alderman Scheketa Hart-Burns and Mayor Richard C. Irvin organized the first-ever ‘City Hall Help for the Holidays’ event that provided 150 turkeys to more than 300 senior citizens, parents and children in Aurora.

Joined by Alderman-at-Large Bob O’Connor, Ward 1 Alderman Emmanuel Llamas, Ward 2 Alderman Juany Garza, Ward 4 Alderman Bill Donnell and Ward 5 Alderman Carl Franco, the team delivered meals to senior citizen residential complexes (Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, Centennial House and Constitution House), public housing complexes (Eastwood, Indian Trail, Southwind and Maple Terrace) and churches (Sacred Heart, Main Baptist and Impact Church).

Residents were very grateful for the donations, some even cried as they hugged and thanked the mayor, aldermen and City officials.

Specials thanks to the team at the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry for picking up the donations from the Northern Illinois Food Bank and delivering them to each location for free!

Plans for 2020 including growing the ‘Help for the Holidays’ tour to include Easter and Christmas in addition to Thanksgiving.
