A. Flash Report
Referencing a PowerPoint presentation included in the agenda packet, Exec. Dir. Jeffers emphasized the importance of knowing your immunization status. She reported on the CDC statistics regarding measles and provided an update on the recent measles exposure in Kane County. Exec. Dir. Jeffers commented on the factors that have contributed to an increase in measles cases in the United States. She discussed the Medical Reserve Corps and the many benefits they provide noting they have accumulated over 500 hours of volunteer work in support of the Health Department. (Thomas arrives @ 9:10 a.m.) Exec. Dir. Jeffers reported the Medical Reserve Corps assisted in a recent Lead Level Study and they would be assisting with upcoming vaccine clinics. Exec. Dir. Jeffers discussed the West Nile Virus and preventative efforts.
B. Vaccine Clinic
Exec. Dir. Jeffers promoted a free Vaccine Clinic on July 18, 2019 at the Aurora Health Department. She commented additional clinics would occur later in the summer in an effort to minimize the spread of measles.
C. Mental Health Discussion
Chairperson Lewis referred to the 2018 Health Assessment and reiterated mental health was the number one concern for Kane County residents. She expressed her concerns and commented on what additional efforts could be made to address mental health issues. Chairperson Lewis requested the Committee members attend National Night Out events on August 6, 2019 and distribute a mental health survey. Exec. Dir. Jeffers stated she would prepare a brief survey and have it available for review at the Public Health Committee Meeting in July. Discussion occurred regarding possible survey questions and attendance at National Night Out events.
D. Resolution: Authorization to Enter Into Grant Agreements
This authorizes contracts for the grants, for the acceptance of the maximum amount of revenues,
with copies of said contract to be on file in the County Clerk’s office.

Bd. Member Silva informed the Committee a citizen is concerned about a dead tree, noting it may be a public health/safety concern. Exec. Dir. Jeffers stated Illinois does not have uniform legislation regarding trees and local municipalities typically govern rules, regulations and codes regarding their removal. Bd. Member Silva spoke about the census and mental health funding. Discussion occurred regarding mental health funding, the census and grants. Exec. Dir. Jeffers promoted a presentation at the Senior Center in Elgin, IL on June 21, 2019 regarding the opioid epidemic and the elderly.
