City of Elgin issued the following announcement on Nov. 17.
Currently, the Cultural Arts Commission has a student representative position. Elgin is now adding a student representative position to three other commissions: the Human Relations Commission, the Parks and Recreation Board and the Sustainability Commission.
This is a great opportunity for students to begin engaging with their local government and learn how it works. Aside from gaining leadership and research skills, they will also contribute to important projects and initiatives within Elgin.
Students from both public and private high schools are encouraged to apply. For this first year, we encourage sophomores or juniors to apply, as the 1.5-term would go through the next school year. Students going into their sophomore, junior and senior years will be considered for future one-year terms. Apply by the end of the year to be considered for appointment in January.
