Batavia Fire Department issued the following announcement on Oct. 10.
The Batavia Fire Department will host an open house at Fire Station Two (west side) on Sunday, October 14th.
Each year the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) selects a theme for Fire Prevention Week focusing on a key fire and life safety behavior. This year’s theme is “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere™.” Visitors to the open house will learn about basic but essential ways to quickly and safely escape a home fire.
This year’s “Look. Listen. Learn.” campaign highlights three steps people can take to help quickly and safely escape a fire:
• Look for places fire could start.
• Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm.
• Learn 2 ways out of every room.
Activities taking place during the event include the following:
• Opening ceremony beginning at 11:15 AM.
• Tours of the station and the fire department vehicles and Batavia ESDA vehicles
• A vehicle extrication demonstration.
• Informational booths from Tri-Com 9-1-1, Batavia Fire Explorer Post and more.
• Kid’s firefighter combat challenge
• Meet Sparky
The open house will take place between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Batavia Fire Station Two is located at 1400 Main St.
