City of Elgin issued the following announcement on Oct. 8.
The City of Elgin will once again offer residents an opportunity to compost their pumpkins with a collection event on Saturday, November 3, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (or until the collection container is full) in the parking lot located on the southwest corner of Grove Avenue and Kimball Street in Elgin.
Elgin is among many communities participating in the one-day annual collection event. The event is free. Come out and have fun smashing your pumpkin!
Volunteers will be available to help transfer pumpkins from vehicles to collection container. Participants should enter the parking lot on Grove Avenue and exit on Kimball Street. Only pumpkins and gourds will be accepted, and all decorations and candles must be removed.
