The district transferred two students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them.
According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 4,082 students during the year. That equates to 28.5 percent of the 14,317 students enrolled.
Students were expelled for six incidents with violence that caused physical injury and two incidents with unspecified reasons.
Of the 2,621 in-school suspensions, 1,801 were given to boys and 820 were given to girls, including 1,840 elementary or middle schoolers and 781 high schoolers.
The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 2,121 incidents. There were 400 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 2,278 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
Of the 1,453 out-of-school suspensions, 1,004 were given to boys and 449 were given to girls, including 905 elementary or middle schoolers and 548 high schoolers.
The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 882 incidents. There were 369 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 564 incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
