Geneva Public Library issued the following announcement on Aug. 9.
Construction for the new Geneva Public Library near Seventh and Campbell streets will be getting underway shortly after the City issued a building permit Aug. 8.
The 57,000-square-foot facility will have 76 off-street parking spaces, meeting areas, a community art gallery and outdoor reading spaces, among other amenities. Library officials have targeted opening the new building in 2019.
In April, the Geneva City Council unanimously approved the Library's project, which also was reviewed by the City's Plan Commission, Historic Preservation Commission and City staff.
The future library site has been closed to the public with the installation of fencing around the property.
