South Elgin-Countryside Fire Protection District responded to 156 calls in 2017 - 61.6 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in South Elgin-Countryside included 18 fires - eight structure fires, two vehicle fires and eight other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $3,228,140 in fire loss - or about $179,341 per fire.

The department also received 137 false calls, including two malicious calls and 135 other false calls.
