City of St. Charles issued the following announcement on June 20.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has designated a Restricted Boating Area (recreational vessels only) be implemented on the Fox River/Chain O'Lakes from the Stratton Lock and Dam south to the Montgomery Lock and Dam effective at 5:00 p.m. on 06/20/18.
According to an official announcement from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, "swift current, floating debris, submerged structures and piers have created condition significantly hazardous to navigation on the Fox River/Chain O'Lakes from the Stratton Lock and Dam south to the Montgomery Dam in Lake, McHenry and Kane Counties. The conditions are also treacherous for emergency service personnel called upon to rescue persons involved in boating mishaps."
