ST. CHARLES POLICE DEPARTMENT: St. Charles Police Race to the Finish for Special Olympics Illinois

Police 04

St Charles Police Department issued the following announcement on June 11.

St. Charles Officers Involved in a High-Speed Chase around the Track in Support of Special Olympics Illinois Fundraiser

Police cars are transformed into racecars and officers into racers at the second annual Five-O at the Dirt-O fundraiser on July 21 to support the Special Olympics Illinois. Police Departments all over Illinois are coming together for the stock car race for charity at the Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet.

Drivers are all active or former law enforcement, and they will drive vehicles personally designed to represent their station. St. Charles’ own Officer Mike Redmann is volunteering to represent the home team behind the wheel. The winning officer will be awarded a trophy along with the self-proclaimed title of fastest cop in all of Illinois.

“I plan on driving the tires off of that little car of ours if I have to,” said Ofc. Redmann. “This organization helps so many, and this event is a way that I personally can contribute to the cause. Also, this event combines small town America dirt track racing, a childhood dream of mine, with an opportunity to help a charitable organization. Who wouldn't want to participate?”

More information about the event, including how to get tickets, is at http://dirtoval66.com.

“This event is different than most charitable events, and I believe it will truly be enjoyable for the fans,” said Ofc. Redmann. “Hopefully it will be an event they will want to attend year after year.”

A special thank you to Chad’s Towing & Recovery, Inc. at 219 N. 7th St. in St. Charles for donating the vehicle Ofc. Redmann will be driving.

Each officer who is driving is required to raise a minimum of $500 to participate. More information about donations and business sponsorships is at https://soill.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID.

“Every donation helps provide athletes with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics programs and reveal their inner champion,” said Officer Jen Larsen, who organized St. Charles’ participation in Special Olympic fundraising events. “We are grateful for the continued generosity of our community support of this very worthwhile organization.”
