City of Aurora Veterans Advisory Council met Nov. 16.
Here is the minutes provided by the Council:
1. Call to Order Call to Order
The Aurora Veterans Advisory Council, Meeting #59 was called to order at
17:30 hours by Chair Toma.
2. Pledge of Allegiance Pledge of Allegiance
The Pledge of Allegiance was proudly proclaimed by the entire membership present. Post the Pledge of Allegiance, a brief “Moment of Silence” was observed for our fallen.
3. Roll Call Roll Call
Roll call was taken by Secretary Roscoe. Seven present, four absent as indicated above.

Juan Reyna recited the AVAC mission statement.

Dave Voirin motioned to accept the September/October Meeting Minutes.
Juan Reyna seconded. Minutes approved. Jim Butler requested that he receive a copy of the September 2017 meeting minutes, Chairman Toma will hand deliver minutes to Mr. Butler.

Lisa Garcia presented to Trea$urer’s Report. Juan Reyna motioned to accept the Trea$urer’s Report. Juan Reyna seconded. Report approved.

(a) Scholars Scholars Scholarship Fund hip Fund hip Fund – Chairman Roscoe, no report.
(b) (b) Monument Engraver Monument Engraver Monument Engraver – Juan Reyna reported that he has had a discussion with “Memorial Works” in St. Charles; they have been in business since 1923. They would need at least one month’s notice prior to engraving; cost for current name is $307.00.

Dave Voirin reported that he is still trying to get a list. Motion to spend the same as last year ($10.00) on each Veteran. If $10.00 denominations are not available, we can go up to $15.00 each. Jim Butler motioned to approve, Lisa Garcia seconded. Motion passed.
(b) AVAC Website Website
A motion was made to approve up to $500.00 to train AVAC’s webpage manager. Jim Butler motioned to approve, Dave Voirin seconded. Motion passed.

Chairman Toma is still in the process of searching for vendors.

Chairman Toma reported that a candidate has been identified, (Steve Woodman), and that the required paperwork has been completed.
9. Status of Open Status of Open AVAC Positions Positions
City Liaison Chuck Nelson reported that the Mayor had removed the re-appointments and new appointments from the City Council’s last meeting agenda because the agenda was very full and that he also wanted to take some time to review the pending openings. Chuck felt confident that the Mayor would be able to act on these appointments by the November 28th City Council meeting. There are currently five open positions on AVAC.

Chairman Toma reported that the picnic will be August 12, 2018; Joe will notify Executive Director Jeff Gilbert.

Vice Chair Garcia presented a draft copy of Vets Week 2018 schedule of events for AVAC members to review. Vets Week 2018 will run from May 19-May 28, 2018.
12. Veterans Day Parade Veterans Day Parade Veterans Day Parade
Chairman Toma and Vice Chair Garcia thought the 2017 Veterans Day Parade went smoothly and thanked AVAC members that participated. Chairman Toma also mentioned that AVAC was recognized as a co-host of the Parade, something that he was not aware of.

Jim Butler reported that the breakfast has been cancelled.

Vice Chair Garcia asked that AVAC purchase an ad in the program book for the upcoming Pearl Harbor Day Luncheon as we have done in the past. Motion was made to purchase a $100.00 full page ad. Jim Butler motioned to approve. Juan
Reyna seconded. Motion carried.

• Jim Butler reported that the check had been returned to AVAC for the purchase of flags that were surplus from the Healing Field in Oswego. There was also discussion on following through when a motion has been passed at an AVAC meeting.

The next meeting of the AVAC was announced for December 21, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at AMVETS Post 103, 1194 Jericho Road, Aurora.
