Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-IL) took to Facebook recently to voice his support for a measure to assist Syrian genocide victims and civilians caught in the ongoing conflict.
“Proud to say I voted for and the House passed the Iraq and Syria Relief and Accountability Act (updated H.R. 390 version in the 115th Congress) to provide assistance for victims of genocide and demand accountability for its perpetrators,” Hultgren posted. “I cosponsored this legislation and urge the Senate to act quickly to secure its passage into law.”
Hultgren has long supported the cause, endorsing two measures in 2016 to impose sanctions on governments and entities supporting war atrocities and help religious minorities from Iraq and Syria resettle in the United States.

“Justice requires not only immediate aid to these victims, but the accountability of the perpetrators to the rule of law,” Hultgren said at the time, according to a release. “As the conflict continues, it is essential war crimes and human rights abuses such as torture, rape, civilian killings, and the use of chemical weapons are recorded with precision and accuracy so perpetrators can be brought to justice once a peaceful solution is found.”
