Although the residents of St. Charles, Ill., likely have many reasons to be proud of their city, the latest one takes the form of a little-known award for fiscal reporting.
And this year marks the beginning of the city’s fourth decade as a recipient of the honor.
Bestowed by the Government Finance Officers Association, the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting rewards cities that “prepare financial reports of the highest quality for the benefit of citizens” and other stakeholders, according to a city press release.
In the announcement of the honor, finance director Christopher Minick was quoted as saying, “The City of St. Charles is committed to following fiscally prudent policies and maintaining transparency and accountability. Our financial documents are always available online for anyone to access.”
