Batavia Fire and Police Board interviews three officer candidates

At a recent meeting, the Batavia Fire and Police Commissioners Board interviewed three police officer candidates.

The board includes three members who are appointed by the mayor for voluntary three-year terms. The board appoints all of the city’s fire and police officers.

SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES JUNE 20, 2016

The meeting was called to order at 5:05 p.m.

Members Present: Chairman Nancy Vance, Secretary Dennis Anderson, Commissioner Laura Newman

Members Absent: None

Others Present: Police Chief Gary Schira and Deputy Police Chief Dan Eul

Chairman Vance stated that the purpose of this meeting is to interview police officer candidates

Interviews – Police Officer Candidates

The Board has authorization to appoint one (1) police officer. Three (3) police officer candidates will be sitting for oral interviews. None of the candidates are certified officers. The next Basic Academy at the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy starts Monday, July 11, 2016. The Board should present a conditional job offer to one (1) candidate this evening. The psychological exam is scheduled for Thursday, June 23 with the medical exam scheduled for Friday, June 24. The Board discussed holding the July meeting earlier, discussed alternative dates as well as the tight testing schedule.

Motion: To enter into Executive Session to discuss personnel issues. Maker: Newman Second: Anderson

Voice Vote: 3 Ayes, 0 Nays, 0 Absent. All in favor. Motion carried.

The Board entered into Executive Session at 5:15 p.m.

Motion: To return to Open Session. Maker: Newman Second: Anderson

Voice Vote: 3 Ayes, 0 Nays, 0 Absent. All in favor. Motion carried.

The Board entered into Open Session at 8:20 p.m.

Motion: To grant Nicholas Bradberry a first pass per his request. Maker: Anderson Second: Newman

Voice Vote: 3 Ayes, 0 Nays, 0 Absent. All in favor. Motion carried.

Special Meeting Minutes

Motion: To present Austin Robinson with a conditional job offer subject to his successful completion of a psychological examination and medical examination.

Maker: Anderson

Second: Newman

Voice Vote: 3 Ayes, 0 Nays, 0 Absent. All in favor. Motion carried.

Motion: To grant James Thrun a first pass per his request.

Maker: Newman

Second: Anderson

Voice Vote: 3 Ayes, 0 Nays, 0 Absent. All in favor. Motion carried.

Motion: To determine Jason Contreras ineligible for further consideration.

Maker: Newman

Second: Anderson

Voice Vote: 3 Ayes, 0 Nays, 0 Absent. All in favor. Motion carried.

Motion: To determine David Castellanos ineligible for further consideration.

Maker: Newman

Second: Anderson

Voice Vote: 3 Ayes, 0 Nays, 0 Absent. All in favor. Motion carried.

Andrew Boccassini successfully completed the oral interview process and will remain on the list pending any additional openings.

There being no further business to consider, a motion was made by Commissioner Newman to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 p.m. Seconded by Secretary Anderson. All in favor. Motion carried.
