ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 49: Villa Highlights Plan to Build a Stronger Illinois for Middle Class

Generalcourt4

Illinois State House District 49 issued the following announcement on Jan. 29.

In response to Gov. JB Pritzker’s delivery of the annual State of the State address, state Rep. Karina Villa, D-West Chicago, released the following statement:

“As the new legislative session begins and I reflect on the progress Illinois has made in the last year, I am proud that during my first session in Springfield I supported a Fair Tax plan to reduce the extremely unfair tax burden on middle-class families. I also worked to pass a bipartisan, balanced budget to pay down the enormous backlog of unpaid bills, and other important initiatives like recreational cannabis legalization, a raise in the state’s minimum wage to help move Illinois forward and the first capital investment plan in years.

“As the daughter of local small business owners, supporting working families, business owners and building a strong economy are top priorities of mine. I supported a package of reforms backed by top business groups like the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association to ease the burden on small businesses, and new job training programs to prepare the next generation of skilled workers for high-wage jobs. I also passed a new law to allow workers who earn tips to keep more of what they earn without interference from their employer.

“While Illinois has made great progress in the last year, there is still much more work to do to build a stronger state for our families and get our state back on better financial footing. To continue my efforts to lift up working and middle-class families, I am committed to passing a balanced, bipartisan budget that continues to pay down the state deficit while also ensuring our limited resources are invested into important programs like our schools, senior care and other lifesaving services like domestic violence shelters and breast and cervical cancer screenings.”
