CITY OF BATAVIA: MainStreet Hosts Batavia Oktoberfest

Octoberfest

City of Batavia issued the following announcement on Sept. 19.

Batavia MainStreet will be hosting Oktoberfest on September 27, 28, and 29:

"There will be beer from Sam Adams (presenting sponsor of the event along with Gerald Subaru of North Aurora) including Sam Adams Oktoberfest, Paulaner, and more, German food from local vendors including, Schnitzel Platz and Team FIB BBQ, German bands, entertainment and more. Oktoberfest runs from 5p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 11a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5p.m Sunday.

“Batavia and surrounding neighbors have come to enjoy the Annual Batavia Oktoberfest festivities. I’ve heard of many people inviting out of town guests to come visit just for this special weekend!” said Batavia MainStreet Interim Executive Director, Jamie Saam.

At Batavia Oktoberfest, Germans and their friends can dance to authentic tunes coming from the Funway Family Entertainment Center Stage by Freeze Dried Band, Jimmy Bavarians, Mike Knauf Quartette, Johnny Wagner Band and Sgt. Sauerkraut Polka Band. Traditional German attire is encouraged and will be celebrated through the Dirndl and Lederhosen contest. Stick around to watch traditional German dances by local dance troops like A Step Above, Batavia Academy of Dance and more.

The fest activities will kick off with the ceremonial Tapping of the Keg by Bergermeisters, the Honorable Mayor Jeff as well music from the Batavia Community Band.

“New this year, we are looking forward to including more downtown business by hosting family friendly activities such as puppet shows and face painting inside their establishments,” commented Bonnie Baumgartner, Batavia MainStreet Special Events Coordinator, “I am personally looking forward to the can-derby races hosted at Rivers Edge Bar & Grill.”

River Street will be tented for the event and filled with plenty tables of seating and dancing space. Spring Bluff Nursery has generously taken over décor at the event entry points. Wine and cocktails will also be available for purchase by local vendors.

Another new addition to Batavia Oktoberfest this year will be Wiener Dog Races on North River Street. Back again this year is the Brat Trot 5K which includes a kid run as well. Register for the race and receive a brat, a beverage and an Alpine hat! Head to downtownbatavia.com to register.

This event is free to enter with tickets for food and beverages being sold inside the event. Batavia Oktoberfest is currently looking for a large number of volunteers to assist with various duties. Please contact Batavia MainStreet if you are interested in helping."
