Former state university employee Semper paid in $34K to pension fund, could collect $1.09M in retirement

Former state university employee Hope Semper, who retired in October 2016, saved $34,276 toward a pension over 9 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Semper would collect as much as $1.09 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Kane County Reporter.

The projection assumes Semper received $22,869 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Semper will have already received $46,424 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
