City of Geneva issued the following announcement on Dec. 4.
The City of Geneva will be conducting a special, free community-wide brush collection for residents starting the week of Dec. 10 in response to the number of tree limbs that were knocked down during the Nov. 25-26 blizzard.
The City’s annual brush program ended in mid-November, but the Geneva City Council approved amending the contract with Kramer Tree Specialists, Inc. Dec. 3 to provide an additional pickup.
Brush should be placed on the parkway by 7 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10. The contractor’s crews will collect brush starting on the City’s east side and work their way west in Geneva. Kramer trucks will make one pass on every street as part of the special pickup, which will take about two weeks to complete, weather permitting. There are no designated zones as part of the special pickup.
Brush needs to be placed in a separate pile from the curbside leaf program, which is ongoing and likely will continue into the week of Dec. 10 on the City’s west side. Residents who combine their brush with leaves risk having both items not collected by the contractor.
Tree branches must be stacked with the cut ends facing in one direction toward the curb or edge of the pavement – not in the street. Branches and stumps cannot exceed 12 inches in diameter, and tree limbs should be less than 12 feet in length.
Residents should not tie bundles of branches with rope or wire. No foreign materials, such as construction debris, fencing, lumber, wire, grass, flowers, or garden waste will be collected.
Branches smaller than 1 inch in diameter are considered yard waste, which is not included as part of the City’s special brush collection. The City’s yard waste program has concluded for the year, and residents with brown yard waste bags or Lakeshore Recycling System’s yard waste carts will need to store them until the program resumes in mid-March.
