CITY OF BATAVIA: Fired Department responds to vehicle driven over edge of Batavia Parking Deck

Car

City of Batavia issued the following announcement on June 16.

On Saturday, May 19th, 2018 units from the Batavia Fire Department responded to the city parking deck located at 20 N. River for a vehicle that had driven over the edge of the deck. On arrival, Battalion 1 found a BMW had driven over the ledge on the State St. side of the parking deck. It came to rest between the ledge and another vehicle on State St. There was an approximate four foot drop from the parking deck to the side walk where the vehicle impacted the second vehicle. The occupant of the BMW was out prior to arrival. They were evaluated and not transported from the scene. The second vehicle was unoccupied at the time.

State St. was shut down between Washington Street and River Street to ensure scene safety while all hazards were removed. The intersection of State and River was shut down prior to the incident due to the large attendance at the Batavia Farmer’s Market.

The position of the vehicle on the parking deck wall required a coordinated removal by the tow company. While this took some time to accomplish, it was completed in the safest and most efficient manner possible.

Batavia Fire cleared the incident with no further actions taken
