State Representative Dan Ugaste and State Senator Don DeWitte, both Republicans, announced on April 15 that they will partner with the Elburn Police Department to host a Prescription Drug Drop Off event on Saturday, April 25. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Town and Country Public Library District in Elburn, coinciding with National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The initiative is intended to provide residents with a safe and environmentally friendly way to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications without leaving their vehicles. Organizers ask participants to bring medications in sealed plastic bags if possible.
“There’s still time for you to clean out your medicine cabinets and collect all unused or expired medications and deliver them for safe, environmentally friendly disposal,” said Senator DeWitte. “These events help play a critical role in providing responsible ways to dispose of prescription medications.”
Representative Ugaste said, “I invite everyone to utilize this opportunity to safely dispose of these substances that can become dangerous when in the wrong hands.” He added his thanks: “Thank you to the Elburn Police Department for coordinating this event for the local community.”
Accepted items include tablets, capsules, solid forms of prescription drugs; patches; vaping devices (with lithium batteries removed); cartridges; ointments; pet medications; and vitamins. Liquids such as intravenous solutions, syringes, needles, and illegal drugs will not be accepted at the event.
Ugaste has represented Illinois’ 65th House District since his election in 2019 after replacing Steven Andersson according to Ballotpedia.
