Nicor announced on Mar. 23 that it will begin replacing a segment of natural gas main along Route 31 south of the Union Pacific-West railroad underpass in Geneva, starting in April.
The project is expected to last about two weeks, depending on weather conditions. Miller Pipeline, Nicor’s contractor, will carry out the work within the state highway’s right-of-way from the Third Street intersection to near the underpass. While major traffic closures are not anticipated, flaggers will be present to manage any temporary lane reductions if needed.
According to Nicor, letters have been sent to property owners who may be affected by this construction. The company said it aims to minimize disruption during the process.
In addition to this upcoming project, Nicor reported that it has substantially completed its natural gas main replacement work along Second and Third streets in downtown Geneva. This longer-term effort began last May and continued into this year.
Restoration of landscaping and paving for several areas impacted by previous work is being scheduled, but Nicor has not yet provided a timetable for when this restoration will take place.
