The City of Elgin announced on March 26 that McLean Boulevard, just south of the Big Timber Road intersection, will be closed for repairs on Monday, March 30 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During this period, there will be no access across the Metra tracks.
The closure is expected to affect local traffic patterns and may cause delays for drivers in the area. The city provided suggested detours to help manage traffic flow during the repair work.
Traffic north of the tracks on Big Timber Drive will still have access from northbound McLean Boulevard. For those traveling southbound on McLean at Big Timber Road, suggested detours include taking eastbound Big Timber Road to southbound Route 31 and then westbound Wing Street or using westbound Big Timber Road to southbound Randall Road and then eastbound Royal Boulevard.
For northbound drivers on McLean Boulevard, recommended routes are westbound Royal Boulevard to northbound Randall Road and then east onto Big Timber Road. Drivers heading west or east on Big Timber intending to go south on McLean will also be rerouted via Randall Road or Route 31 South as appropriate.
Local traffic can continue north along McLean Boulevard up to Timber Drive; however, city officials noted that Timber Drive does not provide an eastbound exit and is intended only for local business access. Drivers are advised by the city to follow flaggers’ instructions, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes while repairs are underway.
