Thomas E. Skilling III, born on February 20, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away on February 28, 2024. His life and career were closely tied to Aurora, Illinois, where he attended West Aurora High School and began his meteorology career. Skilling later became a leading meteorologist at WGN-TV in Chicago, known for his precise forecasts and advancements in weather technology. Beyond his television work, he contributed to weather education by hosting seminars at Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois. His achievements earned him several honors, including an honorary doctorate of humanities from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. In recognition of his impact, Asteroid 91888 Tomskilling was named after him. Although he retired in 2024, Skilling’s legacy in meteorology and his connection to Aurora remain significant and widely respected.
