Senator Don DeWitte has announced his decision not to seek re-election at the end of his current Senate term. In a statement, he expressed that the decision was difficult, citing his dedication to serving the people of the 33rd Senate District and his past role as Mayor of St. Charles as significant honors in his life. After thoughtful consideration and discussions with his wife, he concluded it was best for both his constituents and himself not to pursue another term. He plans to complete his term, which ends in January 2027.

Reflecting on his tenure in the Senate, DeWitte highlighted legislative achievements in transportation, infrastructure development, education reform, public safety, and fostering a better business environment. He stated pride in being known as a pragmatic legislator willing to collaborate across party lines for bipartisan solutions.

Until the end of his term, DeWitte intends to continue serving diligently and ensure a smooth transition for his successor. His upcoming events include Traveling Office Hours and various fairs aimed at assisting constituents with state-related issues.

DeWitte recently participated in a bipartisan legislative lunch sponsored by Chamber 630 of Naperville alongside other Senate colleagues. The discussion covered critical issues facing Illinois such as transit, budgetary concerns, healthcare, energy, and taxes.
