The City of Elgin announced on March 25 that East Highland Avenue, between North Spring Street and Center Street, will be closed from the morning of Thursday, March 26 through Saturday, March 28. The road is scheduled to reopen on Sunday, March 29 to accommodate Palm Sunday traffic.

The closure is due to ongoing roof repairs at First United Methodist Church. After reopening for one day, the road will close again beginning the morning of Monday, March 30 and remain closed through Thursday, April 2.

Officials said that additional closures are expected in the coming weeks as repair work continues at the church. Residents and drivers are advised to plan alternate routes during these periods.

These temporary closures aim to ensure safety while construction crews complete necessary maintenance on the church building’s roof. The city has not yet provided specific dates for further closures but will issue updates as they become available.
