The City of Geneva announced on Apr. 16 that it has started the planning process for the Geneva 2040 Comprehensive Plan and is inviting residents to participate in shaping the city’s future.

A comprehensive plan is a long-term guide that helps direct decisions about housing, transportation, economic development, land use, and other important issues. The city said this document will help elected officials, staff, and community members make informed choices over the next decade while maintaining Geneva’s unique character.

Community involvement is a key part of developing the new plan. The first public engagement opportunity will be at an event called “Geneva Conversations,” scheduled from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 at the Geneva High School cafeteria located at 416 McKinley Ave. The city said participants will hear an overview before joining small-group discussions on topics such as housing, economic development, and sustainability.

For those who cannot attend in person, additional chances to provide feedback will be available throughout the year. According to city officials, stakeholder interviews with a consultant have already begun earlier this month as part of the initial planning steps.

Geneva last updated its comprehensive plan in 2003. Adoption of the new plan by City Council is expected in early 2027. More information about events and updates can be found on the Geneva 2040 website.
