Two commuter parking lots in Geneva are set to reopen on Friday, August 15, after the completion of Union Pacific’s Third Main Line project. The Route 31 overflow parking lot, situated south of the railroad overpass, will resume operations for daily fee parking at a rate of $1.75 per day. Payments can be made through the Passport mobile app.

Additionally, the Geneva Train Depot parking lot—located south of the tracks and west of Third Street—will again be accessible to quarterly commuter parking permit holders. Permits cost $100 for Geneva residents and $125 for non-residents for a three-month period.

The closures began in 2022 due to construction on a third track along the UP/Metra West Line stretching from Kress Road in West Chicago through Geneva. This summer marked the project’s substantial completion, with trains operating on the new track over the past month.

Union Pacific crews may continue minor work along the railway as they finalize remaining items related to construction.

For more details about commuter parking options in Geneva, information is available on the City’s website.
