The Hill BMX Track, located at the Elgin Sports Complex in Illinois, will soon be accessible to the public on Thursdays and Sundays. This decision follows preliminary approval from the Elgin City Council on May 28. The track is highly regarded, ranked as the top BMX track in Illinois, fourth regionally, and ninth nationally by USA BMX.

The new public access hours are part of a pilot program designed to balance community use with scheduled events and maintenance needs. Public riding will be available on Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m., with an official start date yet to be announced.

To help cover staffing and maintenance costs, a daily admission fee of $5 for residents and $7 for nonresidents will be charged. Riders can also opt for a season pass priced at $100 for unlimited entry during public hours. Additionally, Elgin residents may qualify for full financial assistance through the city’s Youth Scholarship Fund, supported annually by contributions from the BMX Riders Association.

“We are excited to partner with the BMX Riders Association to provide open track hours for the public and to making BMX riding more accessible for everyone,” said Elgin Parks and Recreation Director Jen Hermonson. “This world-class facility is more than just a track; it is a source of pride, a place for families and riders to connect, grow and be inspired.”

For those new to the track experience, the BMX Riders Association offers one free trial ride upon completion of a waiver form. Afterward, regular public access fees apply.

Operated by volunteers from the Elgin BMX Riders Association since June 1990, The Hill has gained prominence over time. It is set to host the Illinois State Finals for the first time in 2025.
