The City of Elgin announced on Mar. 23 that it is beginning its annual recruitment for spring and summer seasonal employees, with more than 300 positions available to support city services during the busiest months.
Seasonal hiring is a key part of the city’s operations, ensuring public services run smoothly and various programs are supported as demand increases in warmer weather. The initiative provides flexible job opportunities for students, teachers on break, individuals seeking supplemental income, and those looking to gain work experience.
According to the city, “Seasonal roles are an important part of our workforce while offering flexible opportunities for students, teachers on break, individuals seeking supplemental income and anyone looking to gain valuable work experience. From parks and recreation programs to public services and administrative support, seasonal employees play a key role in helping our community thrive during our busiest time of year.” The city also said many seasonal workers return annually or move into long-term or full-time roles.
Available positions include lifeguards, pool attendants, youth soccer officials, camp counselors, laborers, golf course staff members and other roles across different departments. The city encourages interested applicants to check its Jobs page regularly for new openings throughout the season.
In addition to traditional seasonal jobs, Elgin will offer internships for local high school students through Alignment Collaborative Education as well as a Summer Youth Employment Program aimed at underprivileged high school students. Community members are encouraged by the city to share these opportunities widely: “We encourage employees and community members to help spread the word. If you or someone you know wants to join our team this spring or summer, visit our Jobs page to explore current openings and apply.”
