The City of Aurora will resume its 2025 Water Main Flushing Program on Monday. According to city officials, fire hydrant flushing is scheduled to take place on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout September and October. The purpose of the program is to remove sediment that may have built up in water pipes.

Residents are advised to look for signs in their neighborhoods that will alert them when flushing is taking place nearby. During the flushing period, the city recommends washing clothes before 7 a.m. or after 6 p.m. If residents notice rusty water, they should stop using water and run cold water faucets, such as an outside spigot or bathtub, until the water clears.

In cases where laundry becomes discolored due to rusty water, residents are instructed not to dry the clothes and to call 311 for a free bottle of liquid laundry aide that can help remove stains.

Further information about the program and maps showing affected subareas are available at www.aurora.il.us/WaterMainFlushing.

“Please wash clothes before 7 A.M. or after 6 P.M. while flushing is occurring in your neighborhood. If you see rusty water, discontinue water use and turn on cold water faucets, such as an outside spigot or bathtub, until the water clears in a few minutes. If your clothes become discolored in the laundry, do not dry them and call 311 for a free bottle of liquid laundry aide to help remove stains.”
