Aurora homeowners paid property taxes amounting to 1.9% of their home values in the first quarter of 2026, a figure more than 2.1 times above the national average, according to BlockShopper.com.

Data from the 225 properties sold in that period show a median Aurora home sales price of $261,500. The median city tax bill was $4,859 in 2026, making up 1.9% of the median taxed home value.

The average effective property tax rate across the U.S. was 0.888% in 2024.

Within Kane County, Hampshire and Elburn had the area’s two highest property tax rates.
